Exploration gravel ride Saturday consisted of letting luis_the5th & aldocuriel to coerce me to drive to la linea and ride along the border.. well, above it, to the top of Otay Mountain. .
We saw a few border patrol officers surveying the international boundary and Tijuana in the distance, and lots of tarantula hawks 🦟... but not a single car. Perfect training for the three of us for sbtgrvl.
We have a canyon_na crew excursion planned next time that will finish with a little riding in Mexico and lunch at taco.nazo... looking forward to that one! 🌮🤘🏼📷: aldocuriel #gravgrav #sureño #mycanyon #gofindit

By far, the most frequent question we receive (besides patch requests) is the question of whether Dallas SWAT will accept "lateral transfers," either from other LE agencies or military. This question is mostly asked by people with prior military service, specifically those who served in special units.
The quick and direct answer is: no. Just like a Dallas SWAT officer would not be able to "lateral" over to the Navy SEALS or the U.S. Army Rangers, a person wanting to become a member of the team must first meet all the requirements of a Dallas Police officer. A Dallas SWAT officer's primary identity is that of a police officer for the city of Dallas. Each police agency has its own culture, its own administrative policies, specific state laws, its unique community, and its function within that community. A Dallas SWAT officer needs years of police-work experience on the Dallas Police Dept to be competent working in tandem with the rest of the divisions in the department and serving the community even as a SWAT officer.
Case in point:
"Kal" joined DPD in 2001 and worked in the Southeast Division. During his years as an officer at Southeast, Kal tried out numerous times for Dallas SWAT but did not make the team. In 2009, Kal turned in his Dallas Police badge and became a US Marshal where he served with the US Marshals for five years.
For personal reasons, Kal decided to leave the USMS and returned to DPD in 2014. Although being a prior DPD officer, upon returning, he was required to once again complete the 8 1/2-month police academy, pass 24-weeks of field training, and spend a mandatory amount of time serving as a patrol officer.
Several years into his second time at DPD and at 41-years of age, Kal tried out again for Dallas SWAT and was selected as a member of the team. It was when he completed his 6-month probationary period on the team and had passed the internal requirements mandated by his squad that he was awarded his Dallas SWAT patch.
Hats off to you, buddy. There are no shortcuts.

International Day of the Girl
When: October 11, 2019.
The United Nations General Assembly adopted Resolution 66/170 to declare October 11 as the International Day of the Girl Child, to recognize girls’ rights and the unique challenges girls face around the world. The International Day of the Girl Child aims of the day are to promote girl's empowerment and fulfillment of their human rights while also highlighting the challenges that girls all over the world face. The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals - SDGs adopted by world leaders in 2015, embody a roadmap for progress that is sustainable and leaves no one behind.
Achieving gender equality and women’s empowerment is integral to each of the 17 goals. Only by ensuring the rights of women and girls across all the goals will we get to justice and inclusion, economies that work for all, and sustaining our shared environment now and for future generations.
